Family Intervention Services, Inc. (FIS) was founded by President and Chief Executive Officer Jeanne M. Warnock, LCSW, with the primary mission of keeping families intact by preventing the need to remove children from their homes.
The first office opened in Morristown in 1981, offering counseling to children and families. Today, FIS operates more than 20 programs administered by seven offices located throughout New Jersey. As FIS and our funding agents have recognized new challenges, we’ve responded with new programs, such as:
1986: The Morris County Family Crisis Intervention Unit—aimed at preventing youth from entering the juvenile justice system
1989: Youth Case Management—helping adolescents and families navigate a complex system of mental health services
1991: Family Managed Care—a comprehensive range of services for Essex County families
2000: Kid Connection—to assist children and families to remain in their homes or to transition from residential placement back to a home community
Children’s Mobile Response and Stabilization Service—in-home crisis de-escalation, Passaic County (2004); Morris and Sussex Counties (2006)
In 2003, FIS adopted the philosophy the concept of “Family Success.” Instead of focusing on “problems,” a family success model provides support to families when needed so they can become stronger and problems are prevented from escalating to crisis status. This is a strength-based, comprehensive approach that is applied across all aspects of family life.
In 2007, FIS partnered with Parents Anonymous of New Jersey, the New Jersey Alliance of Family Support Organizations and the Statewide Parent Advocacy Network to provide training to staff and parents and to provide technical assistance to a statewide network of Family Success Centers. This effort is provided in collaboration with the State of New Jersey Division of Prevention and Community Partnership and The Nicholson Foundation.
