TD CHARITABLE FOUNDATION
SUPPORTS NEW FAMILY INTERVENTION PROGRAM
South Orange, N.J., April 14, 2009 ---- Family Intervention Services (FIS) announced today that TD Charitable Foundation has awarded them funding for a new grant to initiate a character education program for high risk youth in Newark. Working in collaboration with The Street Warriors, Diamonds Among Men, Supporting Our Sisters, all Newark; and My Father Knows Best Organization, Irvington, the comprehensive program will empower 40 young men and women, ages 13-17, through career and life mentoring and participation in weekly skill building workshops.
"Our program goals", said Jeanne Warnock, Founder and CEO of Family Intervention Services, "include helping the youth develop critical life and social skills, and to inspire the motivation needed for the youth to make productive life choices. We are thrilled to be collaborating with these fine local organizations and to have the opportunity to work closely with so many young people."
"TD Bank continues to be committed to the communities we serve in these tough economic times,' said Dominick Miceli, Senior Vice President, TD Bank. "The current financial crisis places added burden on individuals and families in our inner city communities and this program will provide life skills and mentoring to guide them through this storm."
Additionally, the program is expected to spur the young people's interest and knowledge of the labor force through field trips, guest career speakers and encourage their pursuit of higher education.
