SERVICES BY REFERRAL

Since our inception, FIS has focused on a holistic approach to family success by providing families with the tools and resources necessary for self-determination and independence. We contract with the Children’s System of Care and the Department of Child Protection and Permanency in Morris, Passaic, Essex and Sussex Counties to provide assistance to families in various stages of need, including trauma and crisis.

Family Stabilization Program

The sturdier the foundation, the stronger the house. 

The Family Stabilization Program (FSP) provides therapeutic counseling services with strength-based interventions and an emphasis on raising heathy, safe children who are ready to learn. This program addresses a family’s basic needs and offers comprehensive resources around parenting, coping and life skills that can help families navigate major life transitions.

What You Need To Know
  • Open to families in Morris, Sussex and Passaic Counties with children/youth up to 21 years of age and referred by the Division of Child Protection and Permanency.

  • There is no cost for this service.

Family Crisis Intervention Unit

The Family Crisis Intervention Unit (FCIU) provides case management and counseling services to prevent a child from entering the juvenile justice system. Regardless of the crisis, a professional will help foster, nurture and strengthen the parent/youth relationship. The goal is to help families restore safety, de-escalate crisis situations and promote stability. FCIU can be accessed 24/7.

What You Need To Know
  • This program is available in Morris, Sussex and Passaic Counties to families with youth between the ages of 11-17 years of age who are not actively under the supervision of the Division of Child Protection and Permanency or Juvenile Probation.

  • In Morris County –

    • FCIU is accessed in Morris by calling 973-586-5243.

    • FCIU provides short-term (4-8 weeks) family crisis counseling by a licensed therapist in our office, your home or in a community setting.

  • In Passaic & Sussex Counties –

    • FCIU is accessed through Mobile Response. Call 1-877-652-7624 to request a dispatch.

  • There is no cost for this service.

Adoption Counseling Services – Pre and Post

Adoption changes lives. 

The Pre and Post Adoption Counseling Services (PACS) is a service for families who are adopting or have an adopted child into their home. This service helps families to improve communications, build stronger connections and better understand the challenges of adoption.

 

What You Need To Know
  • Open to families seeking assistance in Morris, Sussex, Passaic & Essex Counties. 

  • Therapeutic services are available in-home or at a convenient location for the family.

  • Support groups are available.

  • There is no cost for this service.

Family Preservation Services

All children have the right to be safe in their home. 

The Family Preservation Services (FPS) Program is designed to strengthen families and to help stabilize and maintain safe secure homes. This program provides a wide variety of services, from helping families meet their basic needs to teaching the fundamentals of budgeting, child development and effective parent/child communication.

What You Need To Know
  • This program is available to Passaic County families with children up to 18 years of age that are involved with the Division of Child Protection and Permanency.

  • This program is provided in-home.

  • This is a short-term, intensive program for 4-8 weeks.

  • 24/7 support is available.

  • There is no cost for this service.

Children's Mobile Response and Stabilization Services

Children's Mobile Response and Stabilization Services provide in-person response to families with a child in the midst of a behavioral, developmental disability or substance use crisis. Our goal is to keep youth in their home, in school and on a path to success.

What You Need To Know
  • For help, call Perform Care at 1-877-652-7624.

  • This program is short term (8 weeks) and helps the family resolve a crisis and/or connect to community resources.

  • There is no cost for this service.

Child Outpatient Specialist Services

Child Outpatient Specialist Services are focused on serving families with children/youth who are experiencing significant behavioral, emotional, and social challenges and who may be at risk for psychiatric hospitalization or out of home addiction services.

What You Need To Know
  • Open to families in Morris County with children/youth up to 21 years of age.

  • Short-term (3-6 months) counseling program.

  • Psychiatric assessment, medication evaluation and monitoring, along with comprehensive assessments are provided.

  • Families using Medicaid, private insurance or who are currently uninsured are eligible for this program.

Bilingual services are available.

Family Visitation and Supportive Services 

This service is designed to provide parents and children with a safe, supervised meeting place to connect with their child after he/she has been removed from the home by the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCPP). The goal is to facilitate family reunification and/or to preserve the family connection as well as to support families through this period of separation.

What You Need To Know
  • Open to families in Morris, Passaic, Sussex and Hudson Counties with children/youth up to 18 years of age who are referred by DCPP.

  • Children and families can be transported to and from the visit. 

  • There is no cost for this service.

Parent Support Program

Parenting can be a challenge, even in the best of times. 

The Parent Support Program provides parents with the skills and resources necessary to successfully raise a family. Parent Support staff assist parents in time management, budgeting and effective parenting /life skills.

What You Need To Know
  • Open to families in Essex County with children/youth up to 18 years of age that are referred by the Division of Child Protection and Permanency.

  • Services are short-term for up to 6 months.

  • Each service plan is customized to meet family goals that are aligned with the referral source.

  • There is no cost for this service.

Family Outreach Program

The Family Outreach Program (FOP), a non-clinical program, serves families experiencing multiple life stressors. This in-home program provides case management, support, psycho-education, advocacy and linkage to community services.  Our goal is to help families to meet daily challenges with the tools and skills they need to be successful.

What You Need To Know
  • Available to families in Morris County with children/youth up to 18 years of age.  Support is provided in home or in the community for 3-6 months. 

  • Crisis support is available 24/7 to help restore safety and de-escalate crisis situations.

  • Educational group meetings/classes are available within the community.

  • There is no cost for this service.
